Y.E.S. FUTURES

ALOHA,

The site was built by two Mililani High School students doing a project on the enviornment and decided to focus on Waikakalaua Stream, which is apart of the Waikele Watershed, second largest on Oahu. The project is related to Y.E.S. Futures in which tries to brighten the future for our environment.

The students went and gathered data that they think will be enlighting to those who are not educated on the area and why it is such important place that we must focus on.

The MAJOR CONCERN of the Waikakalaua stream:  the huge amount of human impact that causes the stream's ecosystem to steadily decline in a negative manner.

The information should reach others concerns because most do not know what is really in their streams and how badly they are protected. Each individual in the Mililani community is apart of the Waikele watershed, which happens to be one of the LARGEST on O’ahu.

The Waikakalaua stream that is a mixed land use has about 540 ft. drainage area of 6.93 square miles and the lower 44% is largely urban land. (Brasher 1)
